The inspiration for the first Face Cradle Insert developed through the collaboration of Bob Steers, L.M.T. and Mrs. Kim Wilson. In 2004 Kim suffered from a fractured Styloid Process in her neck, leading to nerve and muscle problems that were not responding well to conventional medical treatments. After surgery removed the fragmented bones, Kim experienced some relief; however, residual nerve pain and severe muscle spasms still remained. Seeking alternative options for pain relief Kim began working with a Neuromuscular Therapist, Bob Steers.
Working together for approximately two months trying different therapeutic treatments it was becoming apparent to both Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Steers that there was something else "going on" during her treatment, which was hindering her recovery process. Mrs. Wilson noticed that, while being in the prone or face down position during treatment, her face would "fall through" resulting in considerable pain to her head, neck and facial areas. Sensing her effort to hold her neck and shoulder areas "up" during her treatment, Mrs. Wilson determined it was necessary to modify the existing face cradle. Mrs. Wilson found that by adding a geometric shaped face cradle "insert" to the existing face cradle it significantly reduced the amount of pressure and pain in her head, neck and face during her treatments.
Through trial and error and the desire to improve upon the original concept, Kim and Bob designed the original Face Cradle Insert in 2006. They noticed that the Face Cradle Insert significantly increased the support to Kim’s head, neck and facial area during her treatments. She immediately felt a dramatic improvement in her ability to relax during the sessions, but more importantly, she noticed that the pain she was experiencing previously was considerably reduced.
From a practitioners’ perspective, Bob noticed a considerable improvement in Kim’s ability to relax her face, head and neck onto the Face Cradle Insert. This natural relaxation response allowed Bob to more effectively treat the posterior side or back side of Kim’s neck, skull and upper back.
The mission of Face Cradle Insert, Inc.(FCI) is to enhance comfort and provide compassionate care products for practitioners and consumers in the Health and Wellness Industries.
